SURFACE DRESSING PROGRAMME 2023 – LOCHABER AREA

SURFACE DRESSING 2023 – LOCHABER AREA ** UPDATE**

EMERGENCY CLOSURE NOTICE – B849 LOCHALINE – DRIMNIN ROAD

Further to our email of 26th April 2023, we write to inform you that following a Site Specific Risk Assessment visit for traffic management we have to impose an Emergency Closure Notice on the B849 Lochaline – Drimnin road.  This is due to lack of space (passing places and laybys) to allow the convoy to pull off the road to allow vehicles to pass and allow our lorries to delivery chips to the site in a safe manner.

You will see on the attached document that we are providing amnesties within the closure times and also wish to advise that the restrictions will not be in place in any wet/adverse weather conditions making it unsuitable for us to carry out the road works, or if we have completed the works before  the proposed end date of 1st June 2023

SURFACE DRESSING PROGRAMME 2023 – LOCHABER AREA

I write to inform you of our forthcoming Surface Dressing works which will be carried out by our Direct Labour Operatives (DLO) .

For those not familiar with this road surface treatment –   it involves spraying liquid bitumen binder on a clean, dry road surface, over which stone chippings are spread (small, consistently-sized aggregate). The surface is rolled to embed the stones into the bitumen although some loose stones may remain on the road surface for about a week. It makes surfaces waterproof, protects against frost and water damage, and provides improved resistance to skidding.    .It is a relatively quick treatment which minimises delays to traffic.

Our programme this year is:-

1.    B8043 – Kingairloch Road – from Dam Car Park to Bridge (Lochuisge ) – Length 2km

2.    B849 – Drymnen Road – 7 Sections– Length 8km

I have attached the location plans for both roads (below).  It is our intention to start week commencing 15th May 2023, weather permitting, this process cannot be carried out in the rain.  The programme will last for approximately 3-4  working weeks.  Please feel free to share this information on any community social media pages or notice boards that you think will benefit the Community for planning/organising any deliveries etc.

We apologise in advance for any delays caused due to the works and also wish to advise that Emergency access will be provided at all times.

Yours faithfully,
